Patient stories

Real people who got their lives back.

Experiences from patients treated by Dr. Desai.

Dr. Desai did my neck surgery in January and I have not had any arm pain since surgery! He is so kind and thoughtful and took his time explaining everything to me. I am so glad I found him. Thank you Dr. Desai for giving me my life back!

Neck surgery patient

I have had 2 major back surgeries, and when I came to Dr. Desai, I thought he was going to recommend a 3rd one. Instead, he showed me exactly where he believed my pain was coming from on my MRI, and gave me all of the available options to help my pain besides surgery. Highly recommend!

How we treat

Surgery is the last step, not the first.

Most spine problems deserve a full try at nonsurgical care. Here is the order we work in — and we stop as soon as you are better.

Step one

Find the real source of the pain

A careful exam and an honest look at your imaging — together, on the screen, until it makes sense to you.

Step two

Get you moving safely

Physical therapy, targeted exercise, and simple changes to how you sit, lift, sleep, and walk.

Step three

Calm the pain down

Medication options, bracing, and targeted injections when appropriate — so you can keep moving while you heal.

Step four

Keep the progress

A home program, conditioning, and follow-up designed to protect what you have gained.

Step five

Surgery — only if you need it

If nonsurgical care has not worked and your imaging and symptoms clearly point to a problem surgery can fix, we discuss it plainly. When surgery is appropriate, minimally invasive options are considered first.

More about our approach

What we treat

Start with what you are feeling.

Neck pain that runs into your arm

Often with tingling, numbness, or weakness in the hand.

Back pain that runs into your leg

Sciatica-type pain that can make standing or sitting difficult.

Legs give out when you walk

Heaviness or cramping that eases when you sit or lean forward.

Clumsy hands or unsteady balance

Buttons, handwriting, or footing that suddenly feel different.

Back pain that limits your day

Pain that keeps you from work, yard work, golf, or sleep.

Pain after a previous spine surgery

Ongoing or returning symptoms that deserve a second look.
