Conditions and symptoms
You do not need a diagnosis before you call. Most patients describe a symptom — pain down the leg, a hand that feels clumsy, a walk that keeps getting shorter — and we take it from there.
Common reasons people come in
Cervical radiculopathy
Neck pain that travels into the shoulder, arm, or hand, often with tingling, numbness, or weakness. Frequently improves with therapy, medication, and time; injections may help when it does not.
Lumbar radiculopathy
Low back pain that shoots into the buttock and down the leg, sometimes with numbness or foot weakness. Often from a herniated disc, and often improves without surgery.
Lumbar spinal stenosis
Heaviness, cramping, or burning in the legs after walking that eases when you sit or lean on a cart. Common after 60 and very treatable.
Cervical myelopathy
Dropping objects, trouble with buttons or handwriting, or a change in balance. This one needs prompt evaluation — tell the office if these are your symptoms.
Degenerative disc disease, arthritis, instability
Stiffness and aching that worsens with activity or standing. Treatment focuses on strength, conditioning, and pain control before anything else.
Revision and failed back surgery syndrome
Ongoing or new symptoms after an earlier operation deserve a careful second look — including a review of whether more surgery is the right answer.
These symptoms can signal a problem that needs urgent evaluation. Do not wait for a routine appointment.

Dr. Desai treats the full range of adult spine conditions, from routine to complex.
Hip and shoulder problems can imitate spine pain, and spine problems can imitate them. Part of the first visit is sorting out which is which before anyone treats anything.
A consultation starts with listening, then a careful exam and a look at your imaging together.
